Merseyside has a growing reputation nationally not only the number of opportunities available to the players with a disability but also the quality of the provision on offer. The level of funding that has been accessed locally to support disability specific projects is one of the highest in the country and is testament to the hard work and ambition of all the partners involved.
The Merseyside Disability Advisory Group was re-launched in January 2009 in order to bring together all current and emerging partners involved in the development of disability football and develop a shared vision for the development of the game locally. The group is responsible for identifying current gaps in the player pathway and establishing a strategy for addressing the gaps including the identification of roles and responsibilities of all partners involved and timescales for delivery.
Aims and Objectives of Merseyside Disability Advisory Group:
• Increase the number of disabled people playing football • Increase the number of disability teams • Create and support a competition structure for disability football at both county and regional level • Establish opportunities at performance level • Establish a proficient volunteer workforce to underpin delivery
Members of the group include, Local Borough Council Football / Sports Development Officers, Merseyside Sports Partnership, The Everton Foundation, Liverpool in the Community, Special Educational Needs Coordinators and local FA Charter Standard Development and Community Clubs.
