The Liverpool County FA Centre of Excellence was the first centre in the county to be opened in November 2001 in partnership with Liverpool City Council and Merseyside Sport Partnership.
The Centre of Excellence is pan disability and the final selection of players represent all impairment groups (with the exception of blind and wheelchair users). The impairment groups that the Centre accommodate are Cerebral Palsy, Visual Impaired, Deaf, Amputee, and Learning Difficulty. The Centre will have two age categories U14’s and U18’s.
The Centre of Excellence participate in a North West Centre of Excellence League from which England Scouts perform player profiling on those players that are seen as potential England Internationals. Players who are fortunate enough to be identified as a potential international will be asked to attend a Regional and/or National England Training Camp with players selected from other areas of the country from which hopefully you will be selected in a match squad and receive a cap. Over the years the Centre is proud that over 25 players have gone on to represent their county.
Centre objectives
• To develop players to a standard consistent with the highest levels in disability football
• To recommend players for national selection if deemed at the appropriate standard
• To establish a challenging and structured technical programme which is to be followed by all coaching staff
• To provide a suitable programme of pan disability fixtures for all age groups
The centre commences four week trials every September for players who are within the locality of 1 hour 30minutes of the centre. Players who are selected are then enrolled onto a 20 week education programme.
