Mini Whistlers

Mini Whistlers is a course run by the County FA aimed at the primary school sector.

The course aims to give primary school children an insight into refereeing in a fun environment.

The course is run over 1 day and all children who take partreceive a t-shirt and whistle.

The most recent course took place at St Barlows Primary School and below are some of the comments that were made following the course:

1) 'Mini whistlers is an enjoyable experience, fun and learning bound together. It encouraged us to develop our understanding of the game and the important role that the referee has. The year 6 pupils at Barlows thoroughly enjoyed being a referee and is a skill we will use in the future. I would strongly recommend the course to any school. Hats off to mini whistlers!'
Sian King, Year 6 pupil, Barlows Primary School.

2) 'The mini whistlers course was a brilliant experience because it taught us about fair play and football from a referee's point of perspective. We would strongly recommend this course to other schools.'
Calum Dyson, Clarke Gilbertson and Jack Hont, Year 6 pupils, Barlows Primary School

3) 'The Mini Whistlers Course is a wonderful opportunity for all children , regardless of ability top appreciate the rules of the game and recognise the vital role played by the referee, and the respect that he/she should receive.
The staff who delivered the course were enthusiastic and extremely approachable which made the pupils feel secure in their decision making. An afternoon well spent!'
Stacey Feenan and Paul Brooksbank, teachers, Barlows Primary School

4) 'This was a valuable experience for all the children - boys and girls! It gave them an insight into the role of the referee and how hard it is to make on the spot decisions. It was rewarding to see some of the less confident children's self esteem grow.' Jan Taylor, Headteacher, Barlows Primary School
