New FA Coach Education Courses

Although in their infancy, these courses have attracted a huge amount of interest across the country and we are delighted to have the opportunity to pilot the new courses with grassroots courses across Merseyside.

The new courses sit alongside the traditional FA coach education strand and complement existing provision.

New Coach Education Courses
1. FA Introductory Module – Age Appropriate Coaching
2. FA Module 3 Unit 1


The FA Learning Introductory Module – Age Appropriate Coaching is a vocational course that provides candidates with an opportunity to develop an awareness of both the practical and theoretical aspects of coaching young players in the 5-11 age group. The knowledge gained from this Introductory Module will enable candidates to develop an understanding of the role of the football coach in working with young children aged 5-11.

The FA Learning Introductory Module, Age Appropriate Coaching has been developed by FA Learning using expertise from a variety of FA staff and experienced coaches.

The course will endeavour to build on your football coaching knowledge to date and act as a stepping stone to the FA Youth Award Module 1 – Developing the Environment and the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football.

On successful completion of the FALAAC, will be able to:
 Define movement skills incorporating Agility, Balance & Co-ordination and their relevance to the game
 Explain & demonstrate how technique can be used to help players perform a skill
 Demonstrate how to use Level 1 games to grow players understanding of football and how we as coaches can manage difference in our groups
 Show how to modify Level 1 games to have an effect upon an individuals technical needs
 Explain how we all learn differently and begin to include this knowledge within a coaching session
 Gain an understanding of The FA Tesco Skills Programme
 Signpost where you can go next on your coaching pathway

Prerequisites: Candidates must be FA Level 1 Qualified or have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Course Duration: 6 hours (full day)
Course Cost: £25 (This is a reduced rate for year 1 pilot, course costs will increase in 2009)

FA Youth Award Module 1 - This 4 day course forms part 1 of the 3 part ‘Youth Award’. Module 1 has recently been launched and it is anticipated that modules 2 and 3 will follow in 2009.

This course aimed at coaches, at all levels, who wish to extend their knowledge of coaching the 5-11 year old player. There are generic strands relating to teaching and learning, motivation and self-esteem that are suitable for most coaches.
The course provides practical sessions and advice for when coaching this age group, and increases the candidate’s knowledge of how to develop their coaching to incorporate the FA 4 corner model (LTPD).
The course covers technical development and in the physical corner and offers FUNdamental ideas for the coach to use as well as suggested activities for the development of football specific movements. The important Social and Psychological development of the young player is also examined.

- Practical activities/games
- Managing Difference

Prerequisites: Candidates must be level 2 qualified or have Level 1/ QTS + AAP Course
Course Duration: 32 hours over 4 days (full day)
Course Cost: £60 (This is a reduced rate for year 1 pilot, course costs will increase in 2009)

Both courses are new in 2008 and are a fantastic addition to our coach education programme. Both courses however have been allocated to LCFA on a pilot basis and therefore we are restricted to running one of each course in 2008 with a maximum of 24 candidates on each course. This is fantastic opportunity for coaches to further develop their knowledge and awareness of age appropriate coaching so book your place early!

Date: 13-14th November & 20-21st November (4 day course)
Time: 9am – 5pm
Venue: Liverpool FC Academy
Cost: £60
