One of Liverpool Ladies’ talented young players, Ellie Fletcher, took time out of her schedule to pass on advice and tips to Rainhill United’s players, taking part in elements of the training session with the club’s girls development groups at under-10, under-12 and under-14 levels.

Alongside Vicky Jepson, LFC Foundation Project League for Women & Girls’ Football – and Liverpool Ladies’ development team manager, Ellie delivered a coaching session and took part in a question-and-answer session, before organising small head-to-head games.

Dave Sargent, Head of Girls Football at Rainhill United, said: “It was fantastic to see the girls enjoying themselves and being inspired by a wonderful female coach like Vicky. Getting to meet Ellie was the icing on the cake.”

Gareth Clarke, Treasurer at the club, added: “We’d like to thank the LFC Foundation and Liverpool County FA for organising the sessions. We’ve had so many thank-you messages from girls and parents alike. There is a real feel-good factor as a result of the session. Everybody full enjoyed it. Thanks go to all for their time, energy and continued support to Rainhill United and our girls’ teams.”

The session was organised by the LFC Foundation in conjunction with Liverpool County FA as part of Women’s Sports Week. The Foundation’s Women & Girls Football Project is supported with key funding from the Premier League for Sport programme, allowing the LFC Foundation to offer support to grassroots clubs in their community.

“I feel very passionate about doing all we can to help boost participation at all ages in the women and girls’ game – and we want to support any grassroots clubs that need extra attention to either keep girls inspired in the game, or give the females that attend our satellite sessions a comfortable exit route into a local grassroots team,” said LFC Foundation Women and Girls Project Lead, Vicky Jepson.

Anna Farrell, Women & Girls’ Football Development Officer at Liverpool County FA, added: “We are delighted to be able to organise these sessions to help our grassroots girls clubs – and we are so fortunate that we have a club like Liverpool, who want to give back to the female game in Merseyside.”
