Grassroots Football Awards - Community Project of the Year

Each day this week, Liverpool County FA will be announcing the local winners of this year’s FA and McDonald’s Grassroots Football Awards, which recognise the hard-work, dedication and commitment of the individuals, clubs and leagues across the nation’s grassroots football community.

Community Project of the Year – Meunited

Well done to Meunited, which, after an incredible year that has seen the subject of mental health at the forefront of public discussion, has been named 2018’s Community Project of the Year.

Established by Matthew Gordon, Meunited is aimed at people that are suffering from, or have suffered from, any type of mental health issues. Based within a football environment, the concept is that people of any ability are able to come along twice a week to sessions and take part in football in a way that it non-judgmental, supportive and fun.

Meunited has grown massively, with between 30 and 40 participants taking part in each session. With Meunited, there is no need to be referred by a doctor or service provider. Everybody is welcome to attend; it is inclusive for everybody.

The project has made a huge difference to people on a regular basis. Not only do participants enjoy each session as individuals, Meunited has brought people together and created a family environment.

Congratulations to Matthew and everybody involved in Meunited.
