Liverpool's Tina To Present Women's FA Cup At Wembley

A grassroots volunteer from Liverpool will present either Arsenal or Chelsea with the SSE Women’s FA Cup at Wembley on Saturday 5 May, after being selected for the honour by competition sponsors SSE.

Tina Hamilton was nominated for the honour by Liverpool County FA Football Development Officer, Anna Farrell, and has been selected over other worthy nominees to be given the opportunity to present the winning Women’s FA Cup captain with the prestigious trophy.

Sponsors SSE and The FA contacted County Football Associations to request nominations for individuals who had been a driving force in making SSE Wildcats Centres, designed to increase female participation in football, a success.

On Saturday 28 April, Anna, accompanied by Tina’s husband, the club’s chairman and players involved in the Wildcats Centre all surprised Tina with the trophy at Deansgate Playing Fields to reveal the news, with The FA’s cameras in tow to capture the moment.

Tina is Formby Junior Sports Club’s SSE Wildcats Centre administrator; a role she has served since the centres were introduced in 2017. Without Tina’s dedication, the Formby Junior Sports Club’s Wildcat Centre would never have been created, and since, Tina has continued to develop the club’s girls’ section.

Working alongside primary schools to recruit girls, who indicated they never get the chance to play against other schools. As a result, Tina allowed the club to agree to provide their pitches for free to host Primary School Football Festivals for girls in Year 1 through to Year 6.

In addition, Tina delivered a Women’s Euro Festival last June, which saw 197 girls take part – and in April 2018; a festival was delivered with 20 schools involved. Ahead of the World Cup this summer, plans have been confirmed for a World Cup Festival. Such is the impressive development of the centre under Tina’s stewardship; Everton Ladies are now heavily involved with it, with players and coaches visiting regularly.

Anna Farrell, Liverpool County FA Football Development Officer, said: “Tina is an inspirational force behind the development of girls’ football thanks to the success of the Formby Junior Sports Club’s SSE Wildcats Centre, which she has been responsible for. She personally welcomes each new and existing player each week. There are 130 girls involved – and Tina knows them all by name.

“Tina thoroughly deserves this recognition and we hope she and her family have a wonderful day packed with memories.”

The SSE Women’s FA Cup between Arsenal and Chelsea is live on BBC One, kicking off at 5.30pm on Saturday 5 May.
