Mags Titans Win Saturday U16 Cup

by Bronnie Jones

Mags Titans became the Liverpool County FA Saturday Under-16 Cup winners, after beating Lower Breck Under-16s 3-0 at Walton Hall Park.

Number Seven scored one for the new holders, whilst Number Sixteen bagged a brace in the match.

Although the scoreline suggests somewhat of a rout by Mags Titans, Lower Breck enjoyed most of the possession during the game and looked the most threatening. However, the Titans were the more clinical in the final third and made the most of every chance they created.

From the off Lower Breck pressed Mags and got some good crosses into the box. However, the Titans defence stayed strong and cleared any dangerous balls.

10 minutes in and Breck’s Number Fourteen hit a great ball at goal and the goalkeeper had to make a fingertip save.

By the end of the first half, there had been very few chances and both teams would have been glad to regroup and think of a new strategy.

11 minutes into the second half, the Titans finally broke the deadlock. The ball came to Number Sixteen from around 35 yards out and he took a chance and volleyed it towards goal. It was a fantastic strike that went straight into the top of the net. The goalkeeper had no chance of saving it.

75 minutes into playing time, Number Sixteen doubled his tally for the day. An error from the Breck defence meant that he stole possession in the box and slotted a second past the goalkeeper.

In the dying minutes of the game, the Titans made it 3-0. Some good play from Number Sixteen drew the defence to him and allowed Number Seven to get into dangerous space in the box.

Number Sixteen crossed the ball across goal and Number Seven tapped it into the net to seal the victory.
