Grassroots Football Awards 2020

GFA 2020 - Volunteer of the Year

Liverpool County FA continues to announce the winners of this year's FA and McDonald's Grassroots Football Awards.

This week, Liverpool County FA will be continuing to announce the winners of this year’s FA and McDonald’s Grassroots Football Awards (GFA), which acknowledge and celebrate the incredible leagues, clubs and volunteers involved in the game across Merseyside.

During what is a difficult time for so many of us, with grassroots football hit incredibly hard, it is a pleasure to be able to pay tribute to just some of the many factors that make our game so special – and emphasise why, when we can come back, we’ll come back stronger.

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

Liverpool County FA is pleased to announce the winner of the Volunteer of the Year accolade as part of the FA and McDonald’s Grassroots Football Awards 2020… Dave Woods.

Dave Woods is not only Secretary of MSB Woolton FC, a Charter Standard Community Club in Liverpool, but in recent years he has also played a huge part in the growth of the Liverpool County Premier Youth League of which he is both Chairman and Player Registration Secretary. Through Dave's efforts the County Premier Youth League has gone from strength to strength and continues to grow. What also impresses is the fact that he still manages to find enough time in the day to do a full time job!

Dave has made a very positive impact in the community through his commitment to youth football at both club and league level in the city of Liverpool. Through Dave's endless hard work, the Youth League has enjoyed fantastic growth and in the space of only four years the number of teams in membership has grown from 17 to 122. Administratively this has proved to be very challenging but Dave has always risen to the occasion in his efforts to ensure that players of all ages and ability can enjoy themselves in a safe and friendly environment.

Dave stands out as he is always prepared to get 'stuck in' and make things happen for the benefit of his club and the league. He is always out and about at matches on Saturday mornings to offer help and support and through the Youth Committee he has also encouraged and inspired others to get more involved.

Quite simply, Dave Woods has made a huge difference to youth football in the city of Liverpool.

From everybody at Liverpool County FA, thank you to Dave for your continued dedication to grassroots football on Merseyside, and congratulations on your deserved award.
