2024-25 season message from CEO Anthony Smith

Liverpool FA Chief Executive Officer Anthony Smith on tackling discrimination in 2024-25

Football is a game for all.

As we welcome the start of the 2024/25 season, we would like to remind all of our members that football is a game for ALL, and is to be enjoyed whether you are a player, coach, referee, volunteer or a spectator.

Across the 2023/24 season there were 20 proven discipline cases that involved discrimination across the protected characteristics – Gender, Sexual Orientation, Ethnicity, Religion, Disability and Age. We are sure you will agree that this is far too many incidents and this behaviour is not welcome in football across Merseyside and will not be tolerated.

Throughout the 2024-25 season, Liverpool FA will be working in partnership with Kick it Out to offer FREE Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Workshops to enhance our football community’s awareness and understanding of discrimination and non-inclusive behaviours in grassroots football.
