EitC To Host Free Heart Screening Event

Everton in the Community will be hosting a life-saving heart screening event on Saturday 20 October at The People’s Hub on Spellow Lane, from 9.30am–4pm.

Funding provided from Medicash enables the Club’s official charity to work in partnership with the Vital Signs Foundation (VSF), to deliver free sudden cardiac arrest screening for young people aged 15-35.

Every week in the UK, 12 young people thought to be healthy die of sudden cardiac arrest. However, attending a heart screening event to undertake a simple, non-invasive 10-minute test can identify a young person who might be at risk.

More than 100 people attended last year’s heart screening event where 13 people were identified as potentially having conditions that can be linked to Sudden Cardiac Death. Furthermore, 15 males and three females all needed to see their GP due to blood pressure issues, whilst a further three males and two females were advised to see their GP for other issues.

Michael Salla, Director of Health and Sport at Everton in the Community, said: “Last year we held a very successful screening event which identified a number of potential issues and cardiac concerns with all concerned being signposted to further care and support on the day.

“This only highlights how important these events are and we hope that this year we can create even more of an awareness in Liverpool. We’d encouraged any young person to spare the time for a free check.”

Paul Gambon, sales director of Medicash said: “We are pleased to be supporting the Healthy Hearts Programme. This is a really important initiative and is part of our wider commitment to help tackle the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac disease across the UK.”
