She Inspires Football League Returns

...and it's bigger and better for 2020. Why not get involved?

Liverpool County FA is delighted to announce the return of the She Inspires Football League – and it’s getting even bigger in 2020, with 15 female teams now involved and three more teams to commence in February.

The monthly league, hosted at Heron Eccles on Sundays, launched in October 2019 and has grown ever since, with the current number of teams involved the most there’s ever been.

Games are played either five or six-a-side, with 24-minute matches consisting of two 12-minute halves.

A key development to the league has been the introduction of ability banding, meaning that teams are playing against teams of similar abilities.

The She Inspires Football League hosts fixtures each month and is open to women aged 18 or above who are either beginners or returning to football after a break.

One participant said: “I had an amazing day in what I initially thought was a charity tournament which has sunce turned into a league. What a brilliant group of girls. It’s nice to do something for myself; just a group of footy mums having a go!”

In May 2020, Liverpool County FA is also aiming to add a Walking Football division to the league, to make the competition open to even more females across Merseyside.

Anna Farrell, Football Development Officer at Liverpool County FA, said: “This programme started in 2018 through a Race for Life Charity Tournament, which saw eight female teams participate.

“To now see the league catering for 18 teams is just amazing. The league is delivered how the teams want. Everything we do is through the feedback we get from those involved, such as the format of play, duration of matches etc. It really is the players’ league.

“It’s so inspiring to see players of all ages and abilities coming together to play, laugh, have fun and enjoy football.

“If any clubs want to set up a weekly session for their players’ mums, sisters or partners, please get in touch with me. We’re more than happy to provide support and guidance.”
