Statement - County Cup Competitions

Following restrictions imposed within the Liverpool City Region, please read Liverpool County FA's statement on 2020/21 County Cup competitions.

It is with the deepest regret that Liverpool County FA formally announces that all County Cup competitions for the 2020-21 season are to be cancelled.

Prior to the start of the grassroots football season, Liverpool County FA announced that, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the realistic potential of the season being disrupted as a result, adult County Cup competitions would not go ahead in 2020/21.

The aim was to ensure that our Youth County Cup competitions went ahead.

However, in light of the Government’s new tired system and Liverpool entering Tier 3 – the tier denoting the highest risk of coronavirus infection – it has become clear that County Cup competitions for all age groups would not be feasible.

Due to the restrictions now in place, particularly with regards to travel in and out of the Liverpool City Region, league programmes have already been affected, with games either postponed or cancelled altogether.

Whilst restrictions are subject to review every four weeks, there is no guarantee of an end date for these current measures.

As a result, to help leagues and clubs have any chance of fulfilling league fixtures, this tough decision has been made.

We understand that this will bring disappointment; however, we hope that all involved understand the rationale behind this decision.

Liverpool County FA hopes that everybody involved in the game stays safe and healthy during this latest challenge.

Whilst restrictions are impacting league programmes, we’re fortunate at this point that grassroots football can continue. Earlier this year, that wasn’t the case.

With your help, support and vigilance, long may grassroots football continue.
