LCFA Sefton CIC Awarded Funding to Revamp Football Facilities

Fantastic news which will see work start to develop facilities in Thornton.

People living in Sefton are set to benefit from fresh investment into local football facilities.
Liverpool County FA (LCFA) Sefton have been awarded a grant from the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation, to deliver a new full-size community 3G Artificial Grass Pitch (AGP), changing facilities, as well as improvements to the existing building and infrastructure at the community football hub based on Drummond Road, Thornton.
The Football Foundation is the UK’s largest sports charity and exists to improve the experience of playing football for everyone, by championing fair access to quality facilities.
With further funding received through a grant from The FA and a loan provided by Sporting Capital, the project will deliver one of the first full-size 3G AGPs in Sefton and provide state-of-the-art sport and community facilities for grassroots clubs and leagues, sports groups and local community organisations.
LCFA Sefton worked with the Football Foundation and local grassroots clubs and leagues to secure a £1.273 million-pound grant towards the project. Additionally, The FA and Sporting Capital have granted £209,000 and £100,000 respectively towards the project.
Following planning approval earlier this year, works are scheduled to commence w/c 27 September 2021.
Daniel Green, Liverpool County FA Chief Executive Officer, said: "This investment is fantastic news for Liverpool County FA, grassroots football and the local community.
“Grassroots football, just like sport and physical activity more broadly, makes people happier and healthier. It does the same in local communities, with life-changing, sustainable benefits that have huge economic and social value.
"The site has suffered from a lack of investment over a number of years however we’re committed to investing in better and safer places that support our business and benefits the local community and grassroots football.
“The investment secured will enable us to work with local partners and community organisations to grow playing opportunities, deliver high quality education and CPD, increase employability opportunities and improve health and wellbeing.”
Robert Sullivan, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “This grant award to LCFA Sefton CIC towards developing a new full size 3G AGP, changing facilities and wider refurbishment is great news for the local community.
“It will support people’s ability to play our national game locally and therefore help unlock football’s many benefits to physical and mental wellbeing.  That’s why we’re committed to transforming the face of grassroots football facilities in this country.  It’s therefore very welcome news to hear that this funding will support LCFA Sefton CIC in developing a community hub for their local community.
“The Football Foundation is working closely with our partners – the Premier League, The FA, government and Sport England – support facility development projects like this across the country over the next decade to transform our grassroots game and unlock the power of pitches.”
