New Community 3G Football Pitch Opens at LCFA Sefton

We are delighted to reveal the opening of a new 3G Football Pitch at LCFA Sefton to benefit grassroots clubs, leagues and community organisations.

A new state-of-the-art community football facility has opened in Thornton following funding from Liverpool County FA, the Premier League, The FA and Government via the Football Foundation, The FA and Sporting Capital.

Grassroots clubs, leagues and community organisations across Sefton are set to benefit from the new full size 3G which has been installed at LCFA Sefton.

The opening of the new 3G concludes phase 1 of a wider masterplan for the community hub which received a £1.273 million-pound grant from the Football Foundation, £209,000 from The FA and £100,000 from Sporting Capital towards the project.

Phase 2 of the masterplan – which includes new changing facilities as well as improvements to the existing building and infrastructure – commenced in January 2022 and is expected to conclude in July 2022.The new 3G will support a range of community groups including local clubs, leagues, community organisations and schools. Alongside the new full size 3G pitch, LCFA Sefton also has a number of small-sided 3G and grass pitches.

Liverpool County FA Chief Executive Officer Daniel Green said: "We are delighted to reach this important milestone and to be able to open the first full size 3G football pitch in Sefton.

“The site has suffered from a lack of investment over a number of years however we’re committed to investing in better and safer places that support our business and benefit the local community and grassroots football.

“The new 3G pitch is a fantastic addition to LCFA Sefton as well as Sefton and the local community more broadly. The site continues to undergo a wider transformation, but we look forward to welcoming new and existing users to the site to benefit from the new facilities.”

Colin Begbie from Litherland Remyca FC added: “For a long time, the South Sefton area has been sadly lacking in a 3G facility, and hopefully this is just the start. As a non-profit organisation, run entirely by volunteers, affordable venues are hugely important to us as we strive to make football accessible for all.”

FC Northern commented: “The new facilities will give players the tools to grow and develop their technical attributes, and allow us to bring players, families and coaches closer together.”
