Tony Smith appointed as Interim CEO

Liverpool FA are delighted to announce Tony Smith, our Football Development Manager, as our new Interim Chief Executive Officer.

Tony will succeed our previous Chief Executive Officer, Daniel Green, who moved on from Liverpool FA in June 2022.

Spanning two periods working in our Football Development Team, Tony has previously held roles as Inclusion Football Development Officer, Get Into Football Officer and most recently Football Development Manager; overseeing Facilities and Investment.

Working for the Association for over 10 years, Tony has supported the development of grassroots football across Merseyside for the benefit of players, clubs, leagues, coaches and referees. His work alongside the Football Foundation, Local Authorities and partners has seen the creation of Local Playing Pitch Strategies, the development of several full-sized 3G pitches and changing rooms, and improvements to grass pitches. Most recently, he helped secure £500k of investment for the Active Through Football Programme for Merseyside.

Tony is a keen footballer, as well as being a Club Secretary and coach for his local Adult and Youth Club.

"I’m delighted to be given this opportunity to lead one of the country’s most respected County FAs," said Tony.

"These are challenging times for grassroots football but I’m very passionate about football in Merseyside having been involved in all aspects of the game, both through my voluntary and paid work. Alongside our talented, dedicated and passionate team at Liverpool FA, I’m looking forward to supporting and improving grassroots football for everyone here on Merseyside.”

Tony’s role as Interim CEO started on Monday 11th July 2022.
