Women against Domestic Abuse Cup Returns
Organised by Liverpool County FA and Liverpool Homeless Football Club, this year’s Women Against Domestic Abuse Cup will take place at Powerleague...
The football tournament, which is supported by a number of local organisations including The Morgan Foundation and Worst Kept Secret, was set up in 2013 to raise awareness around domestic abuse.
The day will see 20 teams from various backgrounds compete, from local colleges who play regularly to women who have never played a league game before, and there will be other activities available as well.
David Pugh, Liverpool FA Chief Executive Officer, said: “We want to show women the positive side of football; how it involves teamwork, can improve fitness levels, the social benefits it brings to players and their families – and how fun it can be.
“This year the Cup welcomes females from various backgrounds to come together, make new friends, have fun and say NO to domestic abuse, and we’re extremely proud to be involved.”
John Finnegan, Chief Executive Officer of Liverpool Homeless Football Club, said: “Domestic Abuse is not just physical. It is often unseen and unheard. It is important that we raise awareness of this so people know that they have somewhere they can contact for support. The day will have a fun element but a very serious message will be spoken on the day.”
There are several ways people can get involved in this event. For those who want to take part, simply email Anna.Farrell@Liverpoolfa.com with your interest and contact details.
Businesses can support the event by providing items for goody bags, whilst others can engage through social media by tweeting purple hearts and the following message – ‘No to domestic abuse #WADAC2017.’
Local shops and businesses can also get involved by displaying purple hearts in their windows with the same message. For more information, please contact Liverpool Homeless Football Club on 0151 237 3986 or info@liverpoolhomelessfootballclub.com
