Each day this week, Liverpool County FA will be announcing the local winners of this year’s FA and McDonald’s Grassroots Football Awards, which recognise the hard-work, dedication and commitment of the individuals, clubs and leagues across the nation’s grassroots football community.
Grounds Team of the Year – Peter Brierly (Skelmersdale Junior Football League)
Working to ensure that playing surfaces are spot-on for the players within the Skelmersdale Junior Football League, this year’s Grounds Team of the Year Award winner is Peter Brierly.
Peter has worked as a groundsman for the league for a number of years – and his determination to get matches on to allow children to play is incredible. Peter gives up his weekends to set up goals and works during the week to ensure that pitches are cut and marked out. The quality of surface he delivers is exceptional, provided through magnificent dedication.
Despite the fact that his children don’t play football, Peter is there every week to help everyone and ensure t heir experience is a pleasant one. Always with a smile on his face, he goes above and beyond to help wherever he can. In addition to league games, Peter works on the pitches for other teams wishing to use them – or for holiday clubs for kids. A gentleman; Peter is well liked by children, managers, parents and the league committee.
Congratulations to Peter from everybody at Liverpool County FA – and thank you for all your hard work and dedication.
