Anfield To Host Black History Month Celebration

Liverpool County FA is delighted to announce an evening of celebration as part of Black History Month, with Liverpool Football Club’s historic Anfield hosting a special event for members of the grassroots football community on Merseyside.

Taking place on Friday 12 October (6.00pm to 9.30pm) at Anfield’s The Beat Lounge, Liverpool FA Black History Month Celebration Event commends the historical and on-going impact of the black community within the beautiful game across the region, in addition to providing members of the grassroots workforce with an opportunity to network and hear from some prestigious speakers.

Delivering talks on the night will be:

Laurence Westgaph – Black Historian
Anna Rothery – Labour Councillor for Princess Park
Ade Akinbiyi – Former Professional Footballer and FA Coach Mentor
Emy Onuora – Local Author
Brian Deane – Former Professional Footballer and Sports Consultant
Arran Williams – Grassroots Northern Officer, Kick It Out


The event is open to ever member of Merseyside’s football community.

Entry on the evening is also permitted, with guests advised to arrive at 6.00pm for a 6.30pm start.

Wayne Wardle, Football Development Officer at Liverpool County FA, said: “Merseyside has a rich footballing history, and the impact the black community has had within that – and continues to have – is incredible and something that should be celebrated. 

“Our Black History Month Celebration Event is a wonderful opportunity for everybody involved in the game across the Liverpool region to come together and find out more about the history and the plans afoot to ensure greater diversity in football throughout all areas. 

“We’re very lucky to have some wonderful speakers agree to attend and I am sure that each will deliver something special on the night.”
