£75,000 Bursary to Fund Courses for over 500 Merseyside Coaches

Liverpool FA to facilitate funding to allow coaches attached to teams to attend FA Level 1 courses

Liverpool County FA is delighted to announce that over 500 coaches across Merseyside will become the beneficiaries of a £75,000 FA Coaching Bursary, provided by The Football Association, which will allow unqualified coaches attached to affiliated teams the opportunity to obtain the FA Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football qualification.

Liverpool County FA is dedicated to supporting its clubs’ network of dedicated individuals by allowing coaches to take their first step on The FA’s coaching pathway, ensuring that a child’s first experience of football within the club environment is the best it can be.

Through figures collected, it was revealed that 501 youth teams affiliated to the Liverpool FA had coaches attached to their team that did NOT have an FA qualification. These coaches, already working with players, will now be able to access FREE FA Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football courses.

This figure equates to around 25% of Merseyside’s affiliated youth teams operating in 2018/19.

Liverpool FA Chief Executive Officer, David Pugh, said: “With over 1500 FA qualified coaches already operating within youth football across Merseyside, this funding is a welcome boost in helping Liverpool FA support those unqualified youth coaches to gain their Level 1 Coaching Certificate.

“Our aim is to have 100% coverage of FA qualified coaches in each of our youth teams across Merseyside. Our local football community highlighted in The FA’s annual Grassroots Football Survey that the cost of FA coaching courses are a barrier for coaches, so it is great to see that The FA has responded to this feedback by offering free Level 1 coaching courses. We hope that this is welcomed by those clubs and the coaches it will benefit.”

MOVING FORWARD

Liverpool County FA will be contacting clubs with teams that have non-FA qualified coaches attached to them.

Clubs contacted by the County FA are then encouraged to apply for the bursaries available to coaches of the teams named in communication – and only coaches assigned and registered to those named teams on Whole Game System will be eligible to receive a free place on an FA Level 1 course.

Please note that ONLY clubs contacted by Liverpool County FA may apply for this bursary funding. This is NOT an open application for all youth teams across Merseyside.
