BRNESC Win 2018 Women's Summer League

BRNESC have been crowned champions of the Liverpool FA Women’s Summer League.

The competition saw five teams; Pilkington, Burscough Dynamo, Alder, South Liverpool and BRNESC, battle it out in a 9v9 competition, which took place over five weeks in July at St John Bosco Arts College’s 3G pitch.

Focused on helping Merseyside’s female adult teams retain players through the close-season and introduce new players making the transition from Under-16 or Under-18 to adult female football, the league formed a bridge between the end of the season and the start of pre-season games in August.

Delivering a flexible competition for the clubs and their players, matches were played in good spirit yet remained competitive throughout.

In what was an incredibly tight league, champions BRNESC emerged winners on goal difference, with second-place Pilkington tied on nine points come the end of the competition.

Anna Farrell, Football Development Officer at Liverpool FA, said: “Our main objective when delivering the Women’s Summer League was to help support clubs in retaining their players through the close-season, as this is when we see many players drop out.

“During the summer months, we also see players making the transition to adult football; however with the players making the move up having no experience of the adult game, the competition provides a taster before they begin playing in our Women’s League.

“This year, the Summer League was a great success – and we’ll certainly be running another next year. I’d like to extend a huge thank you to all teams involved - and to St John Bosco for making the Summer League a huge success.”
