Liverpool Feds - Womens Beginners Winners

Women's Beginner/Back to Football Festival Success

Liverpool County FA delivered the first Women’s Beginner/Back to Football Festival on the 2018/19 season on Sunday 18 November – and following a hugely successful event, there are more to come.

Taking place at the new Heron Eccles Football Centre between 1.00pm and 3.00pm, nine teams from across Merseyside came together to complete in a fun-filled 5-a-side competition.

Teams were made up of mums, coaches and players that are looking to get back involved in the beautiful game.

Participating in the first festival of the season were Danone Ladies, Hope University, Liverpool Feds, AFC Warner Colts, Phoenix Ladies, Crosfields, Herald Juniors, Crosby Ladies and Hurricanes.

Anna Farrell, Football Development Officer at Liverpool FA, said: “It’s fantastic to see the interest in our women’s programme, aimed at beginners or those looking to get back involved in football, which is becoming more popular and is growing across Merseyside.

“It’s even better to see them all playing against one another at our festival – and I’m looking forward to 2019’s events.”

The final of the opening festival of the season was contested between Hurricanes and Liverpool Feds. After a tight match, it was Feds who emerged narrow 1-0 winners.

Both teams in the final, as opposed to the usual medals, were presented with a bottle of Prosecco.

Moving forward, Liverpool County FA’s festival programme will be open to any women aged 18 or over; however, we will be following the same ruling as Cheshire FA, in that no players registered to play in women’s 11-a-side football in the 2018/19 season will be able to participate

This programme will be delivered to a mixture of women who are new to the game, or those looking to get back involved following a spell away from it.

The next festival date will be held in 2019, with a date to be confirmed shortly. Once confirmed, it will be published here on the Liverpool FA website and across social media.
